Close, But No Cigar

Well, I suggested that the MacBook Air might be a tablet style computer. I was wrong. It was just a really, really slim lightweight version of the current line. The features set sounds like a hybrid of the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. You can check out one early description here.

I'd be interested in what you think. Is this something that has you wanting to run out and drop over two grand (w/ tax & Applecare)? I'd especially be interested in the opinion of geekbert's unofficial correspondent on the ground at MacWorld, JayDog. What's it like up close and personal?

GB, this was a dog of a Stevenote leading up to a corpse of a product. Not enough people will buy the Air and it will be cancelled by Macworld Expo 09. As an AAPL shareholder, I cannot tell you how disappointed I am. The stock was at $200 a couple of weeks ago. It opened today at $177.72 and is now down to $164.88.

Sigh.

I've been waiting since Christmas to buy my iPhone, hoping for a 16 gig version. No announcement today. Now, I'll buy the 8GB and just wait for the better one to come out in 3 months.

Oops, I'm the "anonymous" poster who sighed. I just hit the return key before I could enter my name.

I love the idea of the AIR but your right about dropping 2k on that little sweetie.
I would say a great incentive would be to throw in a iphone and then I would buy it :-)
Oh by the way we just updated to the Airport Extreme bas station and love it. It's our own little network at home with wireless printing and fast internet speeds.

Nate, what do you think about the new TIme Capsule? I've been serving the internet and printer through my iMac and backing up to a 500 GB Lacie drive, but am considering Time Capsule as kind of an all-in-one solution. Did you have any wireless in the house before?

Brian, I'll buy your 8 gig iPhone when the 16 comes out. :-)

we love the little base station - I have not had the time to back things up to it nor learned how. I love the speed it provides for the internet, we have had it for a little over a month and not once have we had an issue. Prior to this we were working on a 802.11b and it seemed like it was hourly we were getting kicked out and loosing connection -

I know you posted this awhile ago, but this picture sorta sums up how I felt about the Macbook Air:

Does it have a market? Yes. Is it a very big one? No. It's badly overpriced, and missing things that seem to be brain-dead obvious just so it can be a little thinner- not for me.

I will say though, it is the coolest laptop I've ever seen by far...
